Travelling
to Kyrgyzstan
Travelling
to Kyrgyzstan is relatively easy these days, with flights from the UK
(BMI), Moscow (Aeroflot), Turkey (Istanbul), and the United
Arab Emirates.
You can also travel from Russia via the rail network. Even more intrepid tourists have driven from the UK and some are organized car rallies heading for the Great Silk Road to China. The far easiest, although not necessarily the cheapest, is to fly. From the UK BMI run a service from London Heathrow (Terminal 1) to Almaty, Kazakhstan where there is a 40 minute stop over (you stay on the plane and therefore no Kazak visa required). Afterwards the flight continues from Almaty to Bishkek, Manas airport, flight time is about 30 minutes. With advance bookings we can arrange airport pick-ups and hotels in Bishkek for visitors who wish to see the capital as well (and it's worth a visit). We can also provide English speaking guides if needed. We have good contacts in Bishkek so we can get you the best hotel rates, and flat rentals for longer stay visitors. Travelling time by car from Manas airport to Bishkek is about 40 minutes. Confusingly the airport code for Manas airport is FRU. |
VISA Requirements
Most
visitors require a VISA to stay in Kyrgyzstan and the far easiest way
is to apply for a VISA before departure, which is a relatively straight
forward procedure for Europeans and Americans. Check to see if there is
a local Kyrgyz Embassy (there are ones in London UK, France, USA and
Germany). Search on the Internet to find your nearest Kyrgyz embassy.
Often an invitation letter is not required and VISA applications are
usually completed within 2 weeks. Should an invitation letter be
required we are happy to supply this either by email or Fax.
For EU nationals it is possible to get a visitor's VISA on arrival at Manas airport, Kyrgyzstan, although obtaining a VISA beforehand will involve less hassle and time. Russians and Kazaks do not require VISAs. NOTE: All information is given in good faith and to the best of our knowledge is accurate as at 1st November 2010. |
